The Deep End

Ok...So I promised my kids a pool for the backyard. The deluxe kind...You know, plastic and about 60" in diameter. Only the best for my kids! My husband was gone for the day and he took THE VAN....which was what I needed to transport the deluxe pool. But, we did have the Escort and I was determined to make something work. So off we went to Toys-R-Us to get the "flexible" plastic pool that would last a little bit longer than the one from Kroger only 1/2 mile away! Toys-R-Us I about 15 miles away...only the best will do! (I actually did have to go to Circuit City too). Anyhoo...we bought the pool and went out to the car to "attach" it to the top of the car. I brought some wire/rope stuff to secure it. I ran the rope through the back windows while the kids looked on and secured the pool. Off we went. Then I noticed that if I went over 35 mph, the top end was flying off. So I stopped in a nearby parking lot to secure the front and ran the rope through the front doors and windows.....only to realize that I could not open my door! Aubrey said "Mom, I'm smart and I've got a brain, and you are going to have to crawl through the window." So, "Dukes of Hazard" style, I climbed through the window and off we went again!. I could not go over 45 mph and took all the backroads. It took us 45 minutes for a normal 15 minute drive. There I was driving with my arm out the window making sure that the pool didn't fly off the top. But, here's the reward....all the way home, the kids were like, "you're the best mom ever, you're my hero, you're awesome." I must tell you that when I pulled into our driveway with the deluxe pool, I felt awesome. The kids played in the pool for almost 2 hours and we had a picnic outside....what a great day!

What a mom!
